Strong bactericidal substances such as bleach (chlorine) do not only kill the bacteria in the toilet or shower, but also those in the septic tank or cesspit. Bleach, or chlorine bleach lye, can be found in products like toilet duck, Glorix, many toilet blocks and some all-purpose cleaners. It is better not to use these products, because they will damage the bacterial culture and cause odour nuisance and blockages in the septic tank.
